Your Receptionists Are Going to Hate Me for This!

Ok, before I get started, let me just state this: Your receptionists are going to hate me for what I’m about to share with you.  But, guess what?  That’s just too bad.  Because I think I‘ve found something that will be very valuable to you going forward.

Look, you and I both know that we live in the Internet age.  And many of you have taken the bold step of actually getting high-speed Internet for your salon.  But, you’re continuously frustrated with the front desk staff “playing” on the Internet.  Well, I don’t blame you.

But does that mean you should revert back to the Stone Age?  I don’t think so.  Particularly when the Internet can be a huge driver of improved customer service (more on this later).

Well, over the last few months, I’ve been scouring the Internet to find a great solution to the “web playing” issue that almost all salon front desks seem to have.  And as luck would have it – the answer was right in my own backyard.

That’s right.  A salon that uses HairMax had already found a great tool that prevents people from accessing the Internet without a password.  (Thanks Tracy).  And I just wanted to pass the information along to all of my clients.

This simple tool will actually allow you to block the Internet.  No more playing, no more IM’ing, no more emailing friends on your watch.  And as an interesting byproduct, you’ll even have a lot less chance of downloading a computer virus too.

Now, the product is also super cheap – just $20 for the license per computer (a steal in this day and age).  So, how do you get your hands on it?  Well, there’s a link at the bottom of this email. But the name of the product is called “Internet Block” and it is by a company called Leithauser Research.

You can just Google it and find it easily on the net.  But here’s another interesting thing:

They also have a product called “Clock Guard” that prevents people from changing the system clock before they punch into HairMax time clock.  Not that anyone would try and do that (right?).  I think that product is about $20 too.   It might be worth looking at.

So, a few things you need to know about the Internet Block product.  First, it takes about 5 minutes to download from the Internet.  When you set it up, you need to establish a password.  Don’t Forget the Password!  Otherwise, you’ll be calling them to get it resolved.  We have no way of doing this.

Once you have it installed, it will ask you to check some boxes to “configure” the program.  These are the ONLY boxes that I would suggest checking.

  1. Disable Web Browsers
  2. Lock Internet after Browser closes
  3. Block Task Manager
  4. Show on Task Bar

That’s about it.

Now, they have a free 10 or 30-day trial of the program that you can download.  Then if you like it – you can buy it.  Also, make sure you back up your HairMax system prior to installing the program please.  Not that it should do anything crazy – but better to be safe than sorry.

Hey, I’m looking out for you guys out here.  So, if any of you, have any other products that you use to make your salon life easier – pass the information along.  Let’s continue to work together to make all of our lives a little easier.

Here is the link to their site.

Best Regards, Steve Sampson
