Starting Over: Ferguson Salon Loses All

Rioters swept the streets of Ferguson after a grand jury ruled not to indict Darren Wilson, and Queen Greene’s salon was one of the many in their pathway. Her salon, and many other local businesses were destroyed in a fire, including the beauty supply store at the other end of her block that burned to the ground.

Greene can’t re-launch her salon until she hears back from her insurance company, and in the mean time, two of her former employees have already taken jobs elsewhere. She fears that the rest might soon join them, which means she would be really starting again from scratch.

Another salon owner says all four of her hair salon employees have had to resort to finding part-time jobs outside of the industry to compensate for cut hours due to lack of business. The whole town is reporting a loss of business by as much as 50%. Donations to help rebuild Greene’s salon have been coming in, but she fears they won’t be enough to help her start over.
