Sagacious Star Suggestions

Tabatha Coffey, you know, the one with a hit show on Bravo and a new book out, recently sat down with Behind The Chair to answer some questions and here are some highlights-

The first question was (paraphrased) how do I motivate my younger workers while making sure the veterans don’t get “stuck in their ways”.

Tabatha’s answer was great. She says it’s all about culture building. You need to find out what your people love about their job, why they do it and how you can mentor them to do it more! At the same time you need to impress upon them what the job is to you and together build up a culture around that. As for the veterans, you need to make sure they never forget this culture. That stagnation happens when they get into the grind and forget why they’re doing what they do. “Rattle cages,” Tabatha suggests.

A later question which relates was (again paraphrased) what’s better- someone who fits into shop without clients or someone who doesn’t fit with a considerable client list. Tabatha’s answer was firm and made sense.

The stylist who fits is one you can train and teach to market themselves and grow a client list- they’re a long term investment.
