The Key To Communication

In our profession communication is key. Yes, this is true in all professions, but we are constantly jumping between clients, our stylists, and often vendors and if we’re marketing well other business owners. We need to practice clear, effective communication at all times to make sure our business stays on track.

One thing to avoid is politician speak. You know, how they say they’re being straight forward then dance around the point and end up never answering a single question or coming to any valid conclusion. We want to aim for something in the ball park of Mark Twain. That’s not to say you need to spin such famous yarns that you’d be considered a linguistic genius, but you want to be clear, to the point, and have a sense of humor- a wit. The wit keeps your listener engaged in your clear, concise and obvious message. Finally, know some jargon. Jargon tells your listener you are a knowledgeable member of your business community. In many ways, its like your speech credibility.
